Наилучшее развитие волосяной покров имеет ранней весной (<i>февральмарт</i>) , когда шкурка покрыта относительной длинной, упругой, блестящей остью и густым пухом. Высота волосяного покрова — 25—30 мм, причем кроющие волосы лишь на 4—6 мм длиннее пуховых. Волосяной покров очень густой (более 25 тыс. волос на 1 см2). <b>Опушение шиншиллы</b> отличается очень высокой гигроскопичностью, в связи с чем ее шкурки малопригодны для использования на верхнюю одежду, а используются в основном для отделки платьев.</div></div>
