При близкородственных спариваниях норок в зверосовхозе "Пушкинский" было получено 0,7 % уродливых щенков, а при спаривании неродственных зверей они вообще не встречались.
При определении размеров племенного ядра исходят из интенсивности ремонта стада (процента выбраковки взрослых), среднего выхода молодняка и возможностей использования щенков на племя.
После щенения и отсадки молодняка среди годовалых и взрослых зверей проводится отбор по воспроизводительной способности. Из молодых самок обычно выбраковывают тех, от которых не получено приплода, и малопометных. Оба эти недостатка могут быть обусловлены как наследственностью, так и недостаточно хорошей подготовкой молодняка к размножению.
Бонитируют зверей органолептически — на глаз и на ощупь — при осмотре зверя, взятого в руки или посаженного в специальную бонитировочную клетку. Так как при различной освещенности возможны значительные расхождения в оценке зверей, бонитируют их только в светлое время дня при рассеянном освещении, а в солнечный день — 54 в тени.
