Достижения племенной работы выявляются на выставках зверей. Рекомендуется ежегодно устраивать внутрихозяйственные выставки, на которые каждый зверовод или бригада (в зависимости от характера организации труда) выставляет определенное количество лучших зверей из полученного в текущем году молодняка. Комиссия специалистов оценивает представленных животных и дает свое заключение о достоинствах и недостатках отдельных зверей, качестве племенной работы бригады или фермы. Лучшим зверям присуждаются дипломы, а получивших и вырастивших их звероводов премируют.

Каждые 3—4 года организуют всесоюзные выставки зверей того или иного вида, на которых лучших зверей выставляют как специализированные совхозы, так и хозяйства потребительской кооперации и колхозные фермы.

В районах развитого приусадебного нутриеводства организуются областные и межобластные выставки зверей, выращенных любителями, обычно объединяемые с выставками кроликов. Эти выставки помогают нутриеводам ориентироваться в требованиях, предъявляемых к зверям этого вида. Одновременно проводят консультации по всем вопросам нутриеводства.
