Шкурки различных зверей разделяют на группы дефектности. Шкурка считается нормальной (бездефектной) при отсутствии пороков и если они меньше величин, предусмотренных стандартом для малого дефекта или I группы дефектности.

Сортировку шкурок по дефектам проводят с учетом количества пороков, их размеров. В зависимости от площади шкурки, занятой пороком, делается скидка от 10 до 50 % ее стоимости.

Шкурки, имеющие пороки, превышающие нормы, установленные для большого дефекта или порока IV группы, оценивают не выше 25 % стоимости шкурки I сорта и соответствующего размера, цвета в зависимости от вида зверя, а у лисиц дополнительно от I группы серебристости.
Стандартом предусмотрена также скидка за отсутствие на шкурках отдельных ее частей, за плохо обезжиренные, загрязненные шкурки, неправильный разрез по огузку.

Фактическая стоимость шкурки, с учетом сделанных скидок и надбавок, выраженная в процентах к стоимости, принимаемой за 100 %, носит название "зачета по качеству". Этот показатель дает общее представление о качестве шкурок, полученных в том или ином хозяйстве. Расчет стоимости шкурки в процентах с учетом всех ее показателей приводится в стандартах.
